Our CEO is Turning 40!
Help us celebrate by becoming a monthly donor!

Dear Friends,
On October 9, I am turning 40 years old.
I’m not one for parties, presents, or even attention. But I am one for the animals… especially the shelter animals. One year for my birthday, I celebrated at the shelter, donnin party hats and hanging out with my two favorite dogs -- a senior husky named Barton and a senior pitbull named Breezy. It was a very good day.
I’m not your most conventional CEO. It is not uncommon to find me sitting on the ground, in a dog kennel, a cat condo, or the yard, being climbed on by a cat or slobbered on by a dog. I’m far more comfortable covered in dog hair than makeup, carrying a treat pouch instead of a briefcase. I’m more at home behind the camera than in front of it. Those who know me will tell you that I eat, sleep, and breathe the mission of Hawaii Island Humane Society. My identity, as a human and a leader, is very much entangled with this important work. Animals have always been a central part of my life, and now, they have become my purpose.
That’s why today, and throughout the month of October, I have one humble request in celebration of this milestone. My birthday wish is to welcome 40 new monthly donors by the end of October.
By becoming a monthly donor, you give us the kind of support that we can count on. Whether you give $5, $50, or $500 per month, you can make a tremendous impact for animals in need, including the 150+ dogs, cats, and small mammals currently in our care.
Please celebrate with me! Consider signing up to become a monthly donor, today!
With gratitude,
Lauren
